EWEB offering $50,000 Greenpower Grant to support local sustainability project

March 10, 2025 Ashley Cissna, EWEB Communications

The Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) is now accepting applications from community organizations for the 2025 Greenpower Grant, worth up to $50,000.

The grant will fund a high-impact project that advances renewable energy, emerging energy technologies, clean energy education or efforts to reduce or offset local carbon emissions.

The grant is made possible through EWEB's Greenpower Program, which is funded by customers who voluntarily subscribe. It is not funded by customer rates. Greenpower subscribers will select the grant winner from the proposals received.

Since 2008, thousands of EWEB customers have chosen to support clean, renewable energy by enrolling in Greenpower. Subscriptions start at just $1.50 per month for a 100-kilowatt-hour block, with additional options to match up to 100% of a customer’s electricity use with renewable energy.

In addition to buying renewable energy and funding the Greenpower Grant, customer subscriptions fund incentives for rooftop solar installations, K-12 clean energy education, and local events related to renewable energy and carbon reduction.

The grant is open to tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, schools and academic institutions, or government and other public agencies. Eligible projects could include solar installations, battery storage systems, research or studies related to renewable energy, educational curriculum or workshop development, or carbon offset initiatives.

In 2023, Greenpower subscribers awarded the grant to Friends of Trees. This was the third time Friends of Trees had received the grant, having won the grant in 2018 and 2021. Their latest grant funded the expansion of their neighborhood tree program into areas in Eugene with low tree equity scores. Other past recipients include the Eugene Mission and St. Vincent de Paul of Lane County.

The grant application deadline is 5 p.m. on March 26, 2025. The winner will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2025.
