EWEB Customers Drive Record Energy and Water Savings in 2025

At a time when energy demand is growing across the region, customers who are saving energy are doing more than lowering individual bills — they’re helping reduce overall demand, support grid reliability and limit the need for new, costly energy resources.
This Earth Month, we’re celebrating what’s possible when our community works together.
Partnering to Reduce Demand
Meeting growing energy needs requires a combination of strategies: adding new energy resources, modernizing the grid, shifting use to off-peak times likes nights and weekends, and reducing how much energy we need in the first place. That last piece — reducing energy demand — means helping customers use less energy by upgrading to high-efficiency appliances. Importantly, energy efficiency is often the most cost-effective strategy. It’s cheaper to help customers use less energy than to build or buy new energy resources.
In 2025, nearly 1,800 energy efficiency projects were completed by EWEB customers across residential, commercial and industrial sectors, saving over 14,500 MWH — that is enough energy to power over 750 average Eugene homes for a year.
Residential customers made meaningful changes at home
EWEB partnered with customers to complete 1,677 residential projects, resulting in 2,829 MWH of savings. Nearly 1,100 of these projects were heat pump installations, high-efficiency systems that can provide both heating and cooling at a fraction of the energy cost of traditional electric resistance heating.
These numbers include households across a wide spectrum of our community. Eleven percent of residential projects served limited-income customers, and 18% were completed in rental properties – a segment of our community that has historically faced barriers to efficiency upgrades. EWEB’s enhanced rebates for income-qualified customers and dedicated programs for landlords and renters helped bridge that gap.
Local businesses invest in practical, high-impact upgrades
Across 115 commercial projects, businesses saved 6,269 MWhs in 2025, with 84% of those savings coming from lighting upgrades. LED technology continues to be one of the most cost-effective investments available to businesses, often cutting lighting energy use by 50% or more, while improving the quality and safety of work environments.
Significant energy savings in 2025 came from our industrial customers. Seven industrial projects delivered a combined 5,477 MWhs. These were large-scale upgrades to manufacturing systems, industrial lighting, HVAC and process equipment that have long lifespans and generate energy savings year after year.
Saving Water Saves Energy
In 2025, EWEB customers saved over 152,000 kilogallons of water through leak detection and conservation efforts across commercial and residential customers.
Conserving water isn’t just good for the McKenzie River; it also saves electricity.
Pumping, treating and delivering drinking water is energy intensive. EWEB operates our Hayden Bridge Treatment facility 24 hours a day, pumping water through miles of pipe and multiple treatment stages before it reaches your tap. Every gallon conserved helps reduce energy usage.
