New customer program smooths out dramatic seasonal highs and lows with small monthly changes
When the weather changes, many customers see their utility bills change with it. Big seasonal changes can make budgeting your household finances difficult.
Average Monthly Billing, a new customer billing program scheduled to launch later this year, helps smooth out the highs and lows of seasonal bills by calculating a new 12-monthly average every single month. This means customers have the benefits of smoothing out large changes in energy usage without the risk of a big true-up.

How it works
We read your meter(s) each month and provide actual usage and billing information on your monthly bill. Your monthly payment amount is calculated each month based on your actual usage over the past 12 months - so your bill adjusts gradually over time, making monthly budgeting easier. Your bill amount changes slighltly month to month, but to a smaller degree thanks to the rolling average calculation.
Your monthly amount adjusts gradually, so if your usage habits change, however customers are responsible for monitoring their actual usage to avoid surprises.
You may discontinue Average Monthly Billing at any time, if there was a difference between your last calculated monthly amount and actual usage, the balance or credit will be applied to your next bill.
Eligibility
Customers must meet the following criteria to participate in Average Monthly Billing:
- Not more than two notices of potential disconnection for non-payment within the past 12 months
- No disconnection for non-payment within the last 12 months
- 6 months of usage history at your current service address
- Zero account balance at time of enrollment
EWEB monitors program participation and retains the right to remove you from the Average Monthly Billing program in response to poor payment history.
