Upgrades to Eugene's downtown electric network continue
You may have noticed construction this week on the corner of 7th and Pearl Street. That’s because crews replaced a corroded, aging vault with an innovative, new Voltek vault. The Voltek design allows for the new infrastructure to be built inside of the existing aging vault. We’re able to install the new vault while the cables are still energized, minimizing disruption to customers and traffic while cutting construction time in half.

EWEB opens application for 2024 Electric Mobility Community Grants
April 22, 2024 • Ashley Cissna, EWEB Communications
EWEB is celebrating Earth Day by opening the application period for our third annual Electric Mobility Community Grant program.
The Electric Mobility Community Grant provides funding to non-profits, academic institutions, and public organizations to cover costs associated with their electric mobility projects. Grants will be awarded up to $30,000 to cover up to 100% of project expenses. Grant funds must be used for a program that supports the community within EWEB’s service territory.
EWEB will begin accepting applications today, April 22, 2024. Organizations interested can find grant guidelines and the application here. Applications and supporting documentation must be received by July 31, 2024 to be considered.
All grant proposals are carefully reviewed and considered by a grant committee and scored on project feasibility, use of funds, innovation and analysis, social equity and their education, environmental and community benefits. Special consideration will be given to projects that advance electric mobility in underserved communities, including areas without ample access to public charging.
Funding for Electric Mobility grants is partly made possible by the Oregon Clean Fuels Program, administered by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. With the Clean Fuels Program, utilities earn credits for each electric vehicle (EV) within their territory, which they can then sell. EWEB uses these credits to support the adoption of electric mobility in the community, including bringing access to the technology in underserved communities.
“EWEB is happy to continue offering our Electric Mobility Community Grant Program in 2024. It has been a rewarding experience and privilege to support our community agencies in their transportation electrification goals,” says Juan Serpa Muñoz, Business Line Manger at EWEB. “We look forward to learning about your projects and supporting you in your efforts to serve our community.”
This is the third year that EWEB has offered the Electric Mobility Grant. In 2022 we awarded five grants, with over $122,000 in funds. In 2023 eight grants were awarded, distributing over $198,000 for local electric mobility efforts. The winning applicants covered a wide range of projects, including e-bike sharing programs, EV car charging stations, fleet electrification and more.
