John H. Brown is the longest-serving member of the current board of commissioners. He joined the board in January 2007 as the at-large representative, and since has been re-elected to four consecutive four-year terms representing Wards 4 and 5.  His current term expires in 2026.

John's primary area of interest is protection of the water supply. He has been involved with river issues for more than three decades, and is a strong advocate for clean water and healthy rivers.

John was a real estate appraiser for 28 years with the firm of Duncan & Brown. Since 2005, he has been a principal with Evans, Elder, Brown & Seubert, a commercial real estate brokerage.

In addition to EWEB, he is on the board of Willamette Family Services, the Eugene Police Foundation and the Public Lands Advisory Committee.  

His past community service includes membership on the board of directors for the Relief Nursery, the Eugene Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Eugene Inc., the Downtown Commission and the former Lane Metropolitan Partnership. He is a prior member of the Eugene Police Commission, a past president of the Cal Young Neighborhood Association and a past chairperson of the Willakenzie Planning Team.
