Buying and installation tips

Each refrigerator manufacturer has installation requirements. These requirements can be found in the user manual for each model. Typical requirements include:

  • Allow clearances to the right, left, back and top when installing. This will help reduce power consumption and keep your energy bills lower.
  • Do not install the refrigerator where the temperature will go below 50°F (10°C). New ENERGY STAR refrigerators should not be located in the garage, unless the model is specially designed for this use. It is important to note that the cost of an ENERGY STAR refrigerator designed for a garage can be double the cost of an appliance designed to go inside your home.

  • Avoid putting your refrigerator in locations where it may get wet or be in direct sunlight.

Be sure to verify that your desired location meets the manufacturer's requirements before you purchase a new refrigerator.
