Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) use less energy than incandescent bulbs and help you lower your monthly electric bill. The more lighting you replace, the more you save.

That's why EWEB is participating in the regional Simple Steps, Smart Savings program – to provide every EWEB customer with an in-store discount when purchasing ENERGY STAR® qualified CFLs. We want to make energy efficient lighting more affordable for our customers. Just look for the program logo when visiting participating local retailers.

How do CFLs compare to incandescent bulbs?

ENERGY STAR® qualified CFLs:

  • Use 75% less energy
  • Can last up to 10 times longer
  • Can save more than $40 in electricity costs over their lifetime
  • Produce 75% less heat, so they're safer to operate and can cut energy costs associated with home cooling
Upcoming lighting changes

The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 sets forth new standards for everyday lighting, including incandescent light bulbs. While enforcement of the law was delayed, manufacturers are still moving to meet the standard requiring all lighting to be 30% more efficient by 2014. Did you know?

If every American home replaced just one traditional incandescent light bulb with an ENERGY STAR CFL, we would save enough energy to light 3 million homes for a year, save about $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent 9 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions per year, equivalent to those from about 800,000 cars.
