Energy conservation resource strategy
For more than 30 years EWEB has been helping customers make their homes and businesses
more energy efficient through its many energy conservation programs.
In 2007 alone, EWEB customers saved more than 380 million kilowatt-hours of electricity
as a result of EWEB's energy conservation programs. In fact, energy conservation
is now EWEB's second largest single source of energy behind hydropower.
That's good news, because every kilowatt-hour of electricity savings translates
into reduced purchases of electricity by EWEB to supply customer needs. The electricity
savings by EWEB customers in 2007 resulted in nearly $19 million of savings to EWEB
in power purchases, which also means lower bills for customers.

There is still more that can be done. A recent assessment completed in early 2007
found that there is as much energy savings available in EWEB customers' homes and
businesses as has been installed over the past 30 years.
EWEB's Board of Commissioners adopted an Energy Conservation Resource Strategy in
2008 to provide the utility with guidance for the next five years of energy conservation
resource "acquisitions." The strategy sets annual acquisition targets, funding requirements
and identifies action items to be pursued.
The Energy Conservation Resource Strategy was developed to support the
2004 Integrated Energy Resource Plan that called for EWEB to maximize energy
savings at the lowest cost.
