EWEB restores power to all customers before 10 p.m.

Eugene Water & Electric Board crews restored power to about 400 southeast Eugene residents at 9:50 p.m. Thursday following an outage caused when a falling tree brought down power lines near Laurelwood Golf Course.

Toppled by wind and aided by soil saturated from several days of heavy rain, the large Douglas fir came down at about at 11:30 a.m. and fell across power lines on Wood Lane, knocking out power to 990 customers. Several of the power lines landed on the ground and had to be replaced.

Crews re-routed the distribution feeder lines and restored electric service to approximately 590 southeast Eugene customers by 2:05 p.m.

The remaining 400 customers had power restored at 9:50 p.m. The outage area was bounded by East 23rd Avenue on the north, by Central Boulevard to the south, by Agate Street to the west, and by Capital to the east.

Ten customers in the Walterville-Camp Creek area, who lost power at about noon when a power pole broke and sent lines to the ground, had their electric service restored by 6 p.m.

In the McKenzie River Valley, approximately 860 customers in the Leaburg area lost electric service at 12:15 p.m. after a tree branch fell across a power line and caused a substation lock-out. EWEB crews restored service to those customers by 2:04 p.m.

EWEB asks customers who find downed lines to stay away from those lines and immediately call the EWEB outage line at (541) 484-2300. If anyone finds downed lines across streets or sidewalks, stay away from the lines and call 911.
