March 14, 2011 Media advisory: Windstorm power outage updateAbout 850 Eugene Water & Electric Board customers remained without power Monday night in the McKenzie River Valley east of Eugene-Springfield. EWEB repair crews spent most of Monday clearing downed trees, replacing broken power poles and restringing wire along a key power line between Leaburg and Vida that was knocked out of commission by a strong wind storm Sunday afternoon. That power line was re-energized Monday evening, restoring power to some customers. However, the remaining customers are likely to be without power overnight. Crews will work through the day Tuesday in an attempt to restore electricity to all EWEB customers. A strong wind storm raked through Lane County on Sunday, knocking down trees, damaging homes and businesses, and causing power outages throughout the region. EWEB initially had about 3,500 customers without electricity, but restored power to about half of those by midnight Sunday. -- end -- |
