Jan. 13, 2011 EWEB water pipe replacement to close lanesEugene Water & Electric Board crews will begin replacing a water main on Pearl Street between East Eighth Avenue and East Broadway on Tuesday, Jan. 18, prompting lane closures on Pearl and Eighth. The existing 16-inch diameter water main was installed in the 1930s and has outlived its expected lifespan. EWEB is replacing the pipe ahead of a city of Eugene resurfacing project on Pearl planned for this summer. Although the excavation is scheduled to begin Tuesday, crews will be conducting some preliminary work on Friday morning. Drivers and cyclists should expect delays in the work area and use alternate routes. Most of the work will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and will result in lane closures. To minimize impacts to surrounding businesses and motorists, some of the work where the new main is tied into smaller distribution lines that serve individual buildings will be conducted at night. EWEB asks that motorists driving in the construction area proceed with caution and be prepared to stop. Learn more: -- end -- |
