EWEB holds career fair on Thursday

More than 280 high school students from across Lane County will experience a day-in-the-life of a Eugene Water & Electric Board water treatment plant operator, equipment operator, line technician or other trade workers at the public utility’s high school career fair on Thursday, May 12.

The hands-on event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at EWEB’s Hayden Bridge Water Filtration Plant.

EWEB and other utilities are experiencing a large number of job openings in trades-related jobs as older employees begin to retire. Friday’s career fair is part of the utility’s efforts to encourage younger people to seek careers in well-paying trades jobs.

Students from a dozen high schools will tour the Hayden Bridge facility, operate heavy equipment, participate in the drinking water treatment process, climb power poles and learn about the exciting opportunities in the utility trade industry.

Utility departments represented at the career fair include:

  • Water Construction
  • Water Distribution
  • Water Production
  • Line Construction & Operations
  • Substation Reliability
  • Vegetation Management (Landscaping)
  • Meter operation and maintenance
  • Distribution Engineering
  • Human Resources
  • Environmental Management
  • Customer Service
  • Meter reading
