Dec. 5, 2011 Commissioners to consider 2012 budgetEugene Water & Electric Board commissioners will hold the second of two public hearings on Tuesday, Dec. 6, to gather public comments about the proposed 2012 budgets for the utility’s electric, water and steam operations. Tuesday’s hearing will be held during the Board’s regular monthly meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the North Building at EWEB headquarters, 500 E. Fourth Ave. The proposed overall 2012 budget totals $303.7 million, an increase of less than 1 percent from the Board-adopted 2011 budget. The 2012 budget is based on revenue assumptions that include a 5.5 percent electric rate increase and a 4 percent water rate increase in May of next year. The rate increases largely would recover higher Bonneville Power Administration-related costs and lost revenues from reduced power sales. Separate rate hearings on those proposed increases will be held in the late winter and early spring of 2012. The first public hearing on the budget was held Nov. 15. Following Tuesday’s hearing, commissioners are expected to take action on the proposed 2012 budget.
