April 8, 2011 Water main replacement to close one lane of HilyardEugene Water & Electric Board construction crews on Monday will begin a project to replace an old water main under Hilyard Street from East 30th Avenue south to the East Amazon Drive intersection. The project will replace an 8-inch-diameter steel pipe installed in the early 1950s with a more durable ductile iron main. Construction activities primarily will affect the northbound lanes of Hilyard, from 30th Avenue to East Amazon Drive. During the work, one northbound lane of Hilyard will be closed. Drivers should expect delays and use alternate routes to avoid construction-related congestion. Most work will be conducted from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. However, some weekend and night work may be necessary. EWEB anticipates the project will last four weeks. The pipe replacement will be completed ahead of a city of Eugene pavement improvement project scheduled to begin in May. Replacing the water main is part of EWEB's capital improvement program to replace aging infrastructure and provide greater reliability for customers.
