April 29, 2009 Water line break affects 196 customers in southeast hillsEugene Water & Electric Board crews were busy Wednesday fixing a water line break in the southeast hills of Eugene. A 12-inch water main broke about 2:30 a.m. near Barber Drive and South Shasta Loop, draining several hundred thousand gallons of water from a nearby reservoir. Crews dispatched to the leak shut off the water, but 196 customers served by the reservoir will be without water for most of the day while repairs are made. The cause of the water line break has not been determined. As a precaution, EWEB is asking the 196 customers affected by the outage not to use water until further notice, even when their water is turned back on. EWEB will be testing the water due to the drop in pressure and potential for contaminants entering the water system. EWEB went door-to-door in the affected area Wednesday morning, handing out informational flyers. The specific area affected by the outage includes portions of Barber Drive, South Shasta Loop and East 43rd Avenue. EWEB serves almost 200,000 people and businesses in the Eugene area. -- end -- |
