July 23, 2009 Telephone system upgrade includes new phone number for EWEBThe Eugene Water & Electric Board is installing a new phone system that will help customers better locate the electric, water and other services they need. The first phase of the new phone service went into effect in mid-July for the utility’s Customer Service Department, Information Services Department, and the main switchboard. As part of the new system, EWEB now has a new main telephone number, 685-7000, which replaces the old main switchboard number, 484-2411. The new phone system features an automated menu to help customers more quickly get to the services they need by dialing a single number (685-7000) and using the automated voice-response system. Beginning in mid-August, the second phase of the new phone system will be launched. It will feature a new automated option for customers to pay their bills over the phone at any time of the day, using a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card. Customers also can pay their bills online. The 24-hour electric outage reporting line will remain 484-2300. All other EWEB numbers currently published in the phone book will remain “active” for up to a year. -- end -- |
