EWEB to award up to $50,000 in Greenpower grants

The Eugene Water & Electric Board is looking to award two Greenpower grants of up to $25,000 each to organizations proposing high-impact projects or programs that drive advancements in renewable energy for the utility’s customers.

Successful applications will include renewable energy projects or programs that can be connected to the EWEB mission, which is: “To be an outstanding provider of energy and water products that meet customer needs and benefit the citizens of Eugene.”

Other criteria include, but are not limited to, projects that enable renewable energy generation, research and education; projects with the potential for widespread applications; and projects supporting under-served populations. A complete list of criteria can be found on EWEB’s website.

Since 2007, thousands of EWEB customers have chosen to support clean renewable energy and the environment by purchasing EWEB Greenpower, which allows customers to participate in a variety of the utility’s renewable energy projects. The program focuses on generation facilities that include Northwest wind energy projects and solar photovoltaic electric generation projects in Eugene.

EWEB rolled out the Greenpower grant program in spring 2009 as part of its effort to reinvest Greenpower revenue back into the community. The inaugural grant award of $100,000 went to Lane Community College to help build a solar-powered electric vehicle charging station for students and the community. A grid of solar panels will be constructed, which will power 36 outlets to recharge plug-in electric or hybrid vehicles on the main LCC campus.

The deadline for submitting grant applications is Monday, Nov. 2. Download a grant application or find out about eligibility requirements.
