Dec. 17, 2009 EWEB awards $471,687 in grants to area school districtsThe Eugene Water & Electric Board has awarded $471,687 in education grants to four area school districts to promote hands-on learning for topics ranging from electric circuits and water quality strategies to the restoration of riparian areas and the development of wind and solar power. The utility awarded $296,253 to Eugene’s 4J School District; $80,545 to the Bethel School District; $70,615 to the Springfield School District; and $24,274 to the McKenzie School District. In addition to underwriting projects that include raising salmon in the classroom and building electric- and solar-powered vehicles, the 2009 grants will provide funding for science kits and for field trips that will educate students about energy and water.
