Signs on utility poles create hazard for line workers

The Eugene Water & Electric Board is asking local citizens and businesses to help protect utility workers by not attaching signs to utility poles.

Utility poles support the electric power lines that provide vital electric service to the community. They are the backbone of the distribution system.

Yard or garage sale signs, posters, advertisements and any other items adhered with nails or staples create a safety hazard for EWEB’s line crews and other utility workers. The attachments can cause workers to fall when climbing the poles. The nails and staples can also injure line workers or damage the equipment they wear to protect themselves from electric shock.

Privately owned sports equipment, private lighting, flower boxes or other personal devices are also hazardous and should not be adhered to utility poles.

Citizens hanging objects from utility poles may be liable to EWEB for the cost of removal.
