Patrick Lanning resigns as EWEB commissioner

Patrick Lanning announced his resignation from the Eugene Water & Electric Board of Commissioners on Tuesday night (March 4), ending nearly eight years of service as an elected board member.

Lanning began his service on the board in July 2000 and was re-elected to a second four-year term in 2004. He represents Wards 2 and 3 in south Eugene. Although he lives in Eugene, Lanning works in Salem as dean of instruction at Chemeketa Community College.

In a formal letter of resignation, Lanning said he is resigning to devote much of his time to working to pass a Chemeketa bond measure in May.

“I need to turn my full attention to informing the three counties in the college district what the bonds will mean to the economic and social viability of their region,” Lanning said. “Many of the community meetings will be in the evening. Therefore, I need to resign my EWEB board position effective immediately.”

Lanning also said that during his time on the board, “I was surrounded by excellent community leaders who were willing to volunteer time and energy to making EWEB an excellent provider of water and energy.”

The EWEB Board will appoint someone to fill the remaining portion of Lanning’s four-year term, which expires at the end of 2008. Lanning is the longest-serving current member of the EWEB board.
