Feb. 16, 2007 Wanted: Earth Day Celebration 2007 Activity IdeasPreparations for Eugene’s Earth Day Celebration 2007 are in full swing and the steering committee is inviting the community to contribute to the planning process. Individuals and groups with a fresh outlook on programming or activities for Earth Day are encouraged to submit their ideas to the steering committee in the form of a written proposal. Select ideas will be featured alongside a myriad of celebration elements, such as the Earth Action Arena, the John H. Baldwin Film & Lecture Series, the popular Processions of All Species and more! “The creativity of this community never fails to amaze me,” says Steve Remington, Earth Day Steering Committee chair. “We expect lots of new ideas to come for Earth Day 2007.” The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Eugene Water & Electric Board’s River Edge Plaza. The committee welcomes activities that highlight this year’s event theme: “Spirit of Sustainability.” The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 9. Proposals must be made in writing and be suitable for a family atmosphere. The committee will review and respond to all applications. The Earth Day Celebration 2007 steering committee includes representatives from non-profit organizations, governmental entities and local citizens. The eighth-annual Earth Day Celebration is an environmentally based, Lane County gathering that celebrates the Earth and its resources. The theme of this year’s event, “Spirit of Sustainability,” reflects Eugene’s diverse community and the city’s desire to unite, celebrate and learn about the planet.
