Nov. 20, 2006 Board to hold hearings on 2007 budget, rate impactsEugene Water & Electric Board Commissioners will hold public hearings on Nov. 21 and Dec. 5 to gather comments about the 2007 budget and how it may impact electric or water rates. The utility’s staff has proposed a combined 2007 electric, water and steam budget of $329,749,000. The budget assumes an overall water rate increase of approximately 10 percent, effective with May 2007 bills. However, the budget does not anticipate an increase in electric rates in 2007. The water rate increase, if approved by the board in early 2007, would increase the average residential customer’s monthly bill by about $1.50. The public is invited to testify about the budget and its impact on future water or electric rates. Commissioners will make any changes to the budget and consider approving the budget following the Dec. 5 public hearing. Both hearings begin after the 7:30 p.m. start of each board meeting. Draft copies of the 2007 budget are available on EWEB’s meetings and agendas web page at: http://www.eweb.org/about/commissioners/meetings/index.htm (click on the Nov. 21 meeting agenda).
