April 27, 2006 Tree planting to take place on Arbor DayThis Friday the Eugene Water & Electric Board and the Trainsong Neighbors will celebrate Arbor Day by teaming up to plant trees along Bethel Drive between Highway 99 and the railroad tracks in northwest Eugene. The specific planting site is just north of Roosevelt, on Bethel Drive. A new bike path was recently constructed along Bethel Drive. The portion in which the trees will be planted is served by overhead power lines. The three Flowering Cherries and three Flame Maples that will be planted are considered “power friendly,” since they will not interfere with the overhead lines when fully grown. “This will ensure safe, reliable power to the area and will allow the trees to keep their natural shape,” according to EWEB Arborist Ron Dyer. The planting will begin at 3:30 p.m. Friday. The trees are being donated by EWEB as part of the utility’s “Right Tree, Right Place” program. -- end -- |
