EWEB BOARD TO MEET IN VIDAThe Eugene Water & Electric Board of Commissioners will hold its regular twice-monthly meeting in the McKenzie Valley tomorrow night, July 20. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Vida-McKenzie Community Center, located off Thompson Lane just east of Vida. Preceding the meeting, the EWEB Board will be touring several of its Leaburg/Walterville hydroelectric facilities, including the Walterville Fish Screen (in the Walterville Power Canal), the Leaburg Fish Screen (just downstream from Leaburg Dam), and the fish ladders at Leaburg Dam. The regular meeting will include a staff briefing on construction projects at the Leaburg/Walterville hydro facility, as well as a progress report on the Carmen-Smith Hydroelectric Project relicensing effort. There will be three separate opportunities during the 7:00 P.M. meeting for public comment to the Board. Construction activities associated with the utility's Leaburg and Walterville facilities over the past two years have caused some tension between the utility and local residents. The upriver board meeting is one of several efforts EWEB has initiated recently to enhance communication with its upriver customers and McKenzie Valley residents on the issues that have emerged. -30- |
