Eight EWEB customers receive first Water Wise Awards
During the hot, dry months of summer, it's hard to imagine significantly
reducing water on a home landscape while maintaining a beautiful lawn
and garden. However, nine Eugene residents have accomplished just that
and are being rewarded for their efforts.
The Eugene Water & Electric Board this month issued
its first Water Wise Awards to residential customers who achieved the
highest water savings during the summer following a Home Water Survey,
in which EWEB performed an analysis of their water-use habits and then
provided recommendations on how to use water more efficiently.
Each of the eight award recipients reduced their July
usage between 15,000 and 62,000 gallons during the 2003 outdoor growing
season, compared to the same time period the previous year, while maintaining
an appealing home landscape. In addition to the award, each customer received
a landscape prize.
The winners and their seasonal savings are: J. Vermillion,
62,000 gallons of savings; Sharon Mulford, 24,000 gallons; Jenifer Craig,
18,000 gallons; Gail Konrady, 18,000 gallons; Randy Bernstein, 17,000
gallons; and Marsha Pervics, Bruce Abel and Dennis Schwarm, all 15,000
gallons.
EWEB's Water Management Services experts help customers
reduce their outdoor water usage by providing tips, offering workshops
and conducting Home Water Surveys. All eight of the award winners received
help from EWEB in 2002. The savings from 2002 to 2003 was used to determine
the customers who achieved the highest water savings.
The landscape prizes were donated by Braun Landscape,
Rexius, Rod's Lawn Maintenance & Restoration Inc., Lane Forest Products
and Mother Nature's Compost Teas.
