McKenzie students build picnic tables for parkJunior high students in the McKenzie School District recently built 10 picnic tables for the Eugene Water & Electric Board's Lloyd Knox Water Board Park. This is the third year in a row students in shop teacher Jeff Sherman's woodshop class have built the heavy-duty picnic tables, which replace broken or unusable tables at the park along the edge of Leaburg Lake. EWEB funds the entire cost of the school project. "It's a great opportunity for both the students and EWEB. They get experience building something useful and we get some well-built picnic tables in return," said Jay L'Estrange, EWEB's Generation Manager. The park has about 200 picnic tables, and 10 or more are
in need of replacement each year due to wear and tear, vandalism or other
reasons, L'Estrange said. Editors, reporters: Jeff Sherman is available for interviews or a photo/video opportunity at 822-3313.
