Eugene Water & Electric Board Commissioners to Consider Increases to Water Rates; Public Hearing Scheduled for Tuesday, February 1.

Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) will hold a public hearing Tuesday on a proposal that would increase rates for all EWEB water customers. The hearing will be held during the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting in EWEB’s Board Room and will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Under the proposal, water rates would increase by 5 percent for residential customers. Increased funding for water conservation programs, renewal and replacement of existing infrastructure, increased costs for water rights and increasing power costs for pumping are driving the increase. Water rates were last increased in April 1998. EWEB’s rates are based on the costs of providing service to customers.

The EWEB Board will make its final decision on the rate increase on March 7 after a second public hearing. The new rates would be effective April 1.
