EWEB enhances Pre’s Trail for Olympic Trials

Runners and walkers now have new access to Pre’s Trail after crossing the Autzen footbridge into Alton Baker Park, thanks to a connector trail built by the Eugene Water & Electric Board.

The 450-foot connector trail runs along EWEB’s old steam line on the north shore of the Willamette River. The Oregon Tack Club initially suggested the idea for the upgrade as a way to enhance the existing trail system for visitors and athletes at this summer’s Olympic Trials.

“Building the trail was an opportunity for EWEB to contribute to the Olympic Trails in a non-traditional way,” says John Mitchell, EWEB’s Olympic Trails committee chair. “We hope people will enjoy the trail during the event and for years to come.”

The project began on Monday, March 3, and was completed by five EWEB landscaping crew members. By Friday, March 7, local runners were enjoying the trail.

Rexius and Lane Forest Products also donated a portion of the supplies, including bark mulch and gravel.
