Benefits

"The number one thing I like about working at EWEB is the people. I have been here 29 years and have had great supervisors and co-workers. There are not too many other places I would rather be than EWEB."

Percy Luvert, Customer Service Field Representative

EWEB is dedicated to its employees. That’s why we invest in those who devote their time, energy and talents towards our mission to be an outstanding provider of energy and water products for the citizens of Eugene.

We offer an extensive range of benefits to help our employees stay healthy and plan for their financial futures:

Competitive wages
Employees earn competitive pay that reflects different levels of responsibility. EWEB manages total compensation in a manner designed to attract and retain a high quality, competitive workforce. We strive to be competitive in all aspects of compensation. Consequently, individual jobs, salary structures and benefits are subject to market pricing and may be adjusted up or down based on market conditions.

Health care
EWEB offers a complete medical, dental and vision plan for employees and dependent family members. EWEB pays for 100 percent of the employee-only premium and 75 percent toward the cost of the dependent premium. EWEB offers cash back to employees if they opt out of the plan due to other coverage. Specific plan design information can be provided upon request.

Vacation
Employees accrue 13 paid vacation days during their first year at EWEB. For each year of service beyond the first year, there is an increase in paid vacation days by four hours (Example: year two = 13.5 days of paid vacation days, up to year 25 = 25 days/year). Employees can carry forward up to 240 hours of vacation from one year to the next.

Sick leave
EWEB offers 12 days of paid sick leave per year. Unused sick leave accumulates without limit. Unless retiring from EWEB, an employee forfeits all accrued sick leave. Retiring employees may receive a cash payment equivalent to 25 percent of the employee's unused sick leave.

Holidays
EWEB offers 11 paid holidays per year. Eligible employees receive a day off at their regular rate of pay for each holiday observed by EWEB during the calendar year:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • President's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veteran's Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Day after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day
  • Employee's birthday (8 hours added to vacation accrual to be taken at the employee's discretion)

Flexible spending accounts
Flexible spending accounts provide employees with an opportunity to increase their take home pay by setting aside pre-tax funds to pay for eligible expenses that they would normally pay for using after-tax dollars. Pre-tax employee insurance premium contributions, health care and dependent care accounts are available.

Life insurance
EWEB provides employees term life and accidental death insurance, each at two and a half times their annual salary in addition to dependent life benefits of $1,000 for a spouse and $100-$500 for unmarried children.

Short and long-term disability insurance
EWEB’s disability management program helps employees access benefits and make informed choices during periods when they may be unable to work. The Short Term Disability insurance benefit is 60 percent of an employee’s bi-weekly wage payable up to 60 days. The waiting period for Short Term Disability insurance is seven days for an injury and 14 days for an illness. The Long Term Disability insurance benefit is also 60 percent of an employee’s pre-disability earnings and payable after 120 days of total disability. Employees are able to purchase a “buydown” benefit that provides income replacement from the 60th to the 120th day of disability. EWEB explains benefits options and requirements, and assists with the disability leave process from beginning to end to help employees return to work quickly and safely.

Retirement pension plans
Retirement pension benefits are provided through the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and the Oregon Public Service Retirement Plan (OPSRP). Currently EWEB makes a six percent of salary contribution on behalf of each employee. Additional pension benefits are available upon vesting. Learn more about the program and pension eligibility requirements.

Retirement health insurance
Retirees may receive continued coverage on the EWEB group plan until they are Medicare eligible. Pension eligible retiring employees with at least 11 years of service receive an EWEB subsidy contribution towards the retiree’s monthly premium.

Deferred compensation plan
Employees may participate in EWEB’s 457 deferred compensation program. Contributions are made to the plan through voluntary pre-tax payroll deductions.

Workers compensation
EWEB is committed to injury prevention and providing a safe work environment. We encourage employees to protect their health and promptly report injuries or symptoms that may be related to job activities. We offer guidance in applying for workers compensation benefits and help employees access resources and services during their recovery so they can make a healthy and successful return to work at the earliest opportunity.

Tuition reimbursement and career development
The tuition reimbursement plan provides eligible employees with the opportunity to develop knowledge or skills relevant and applicable to the organization, but not required for their current job. Career development and training are also available through professional development seminars, skills development courses, and professional associations and organizations.

Onsite fitness center and wellness program
EWEB cares about its employees and encourages them to assume an active role in enhancing and maintaining their health and well-being through Wellness Program activities. In addition to an onsite fitness center that is available to all employees and dependent family members, Wellness Program benefits include an onsite nurse and physical therapist, weight loss and smoking cessation programs, onsite massage, ergonomic assessment, nutrition information and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counseling services.

Child development center
EWEB partners with a state-certified Child Development Center to provide an infant, toddler, pre-school and kindergarten program onsite. EWEB employees are given priority status on the waiting list.

Credit union
All employees and their families may become members of the onsite EWEB Employees Federal Credit Union.

Transportation
Free onsite parking is available. Employees choosing to use alternative transportation may also take advantage of EWEB’s locked bicycle cages and 50 percent reimbursement for Lane Transit District bus passes.

Please note that these are only highlights of our benefits plans. Complete details regarding coverage are located in the plan documents, summary plan descriptions, labor contracts and administrative policies that are provided to new employees.

EWEB reserves the right to unilaterally modify or terminate in the future any benefit program that is now or later offered.
