At EWEB, we recognize and appreciate the important role upstream landowners in the McKenzie Watershed play in stewardship of the McKenzie River. Our drinking water source protection program offers several options designed to assist McKenzie landowners in protecting the water quality of the McKenzie River.
The Pure Water Partners program is an initiative designed to reward McKenzie landowners who protect their high-quality land along the river, assisting us in protecting water quality and helping to avoid future water treatment costs. This program can provide both financial and technical assistance.
More than 4,100 homes in the McKenzie River Watershed upstream of EWEB's drinking water intake at Hayden Bridge rely on septic systems to dispose of their wastewater and sewage. While the Hayden Bridge water filtration plant is designed to continually treat the raw water from the McKenzie River, increases in contaminants from failed septic systems could result in increased water treatment costs and reduced drinking water quality and taste.
We have developed zero-interest loan and cost-share programs to help homeowners in the McKenzie Watershed proactively maintain their septic systems and drain fields and make needed repairs to protect water quality.
EWEB and partners offer naturescaping workshops each spring to show landowners how using native plants can save time, money and energy on yards while also protecting water quality.Learn more
