Joann Ernst
Joann Ernst joined EWEB's Board of Commissioners in January 2009. She was elected to
represent Wards 1 and 8.
Joann has worked as an analytical chemist for the past 15 years doing government
regulatory testing and oversight. She completed her studies in Lane Community College's
Energy Management program in 2009 and is currently working at an environmental
testing and consulting laboratory.
Joann is dedicated to sustaining the vision of EWEB in delivering reliable and affordable energy
and water to customers. In doing this she uses the triple bottom line (social justice, environment
and economics) as guidance in her decision making process.
Her main areas of interest as an EWEB Commissioner are increasing access to
conservation programs, updating demand management, protecting the McKenzie River
and developing a regional water plan that includes second source security,
making renewable and distributed energy a reality, and facilitating community
involvement and education.
In her role as commissioner, Joann has represented EWEB on the Northwest Energy Coalition and the McKenzie Watershed Council, and
is the alternate for Lane Council of Governments.
Joann volunteers with the Victory Gardens, Egan Warming Center, local dog rescue organizations, and a number of
local non-profit groups committed to improving and maintaining a healthy place to live for the citizens of
Eugene. She currently represents her area of the neighborhood on the Churchill neighborhood association board.
Joann is strongly committed to community activism to promote resource conservation and sustainable healthy
living practices.
